Nepal Health Scholarships

The average income in rural Nepal is substantially lower than that of the urban areas. Though tuition at the Patan Academy of Health Sciences costs far less than that at other Nepali medical schools, many rural students would not able to afford the cost of attending the academy.

Nepal Health Scholarships aims to provide living and tuition support for as many students at PAHS as possible. The cost per student for each of the 5 years of training required for qualification as a medical practitioner, is estimated to be around $8600 AUD for tuition and $2000 AUD per year for accommodation, books and food.

The Patan Academy of Health sciences offers full scholarships to 9 of its 60 students and Nepal Health Scholarships aims to fund several of these positions. Full scholarships are reserved for the following types of applicants: female, Dalit ("untouchable"), Adhivasi/Janajati (Indigenous), Madhesi (ethnic Indian) and residents of remote backward regions of Far West Nepal (Humla, Dolpa, Mugu, Jumla and Kalikot). First preference is given to economically marginalised individuals who have studied in a public school. Those receiving full scholarships will be required to work in a rural government facility or a rural PAHS designated institution for 4 years after graduation,  where they will be serving Nepal's poor and disadvantaged populations.

Please help Nepal Health Scholarships in their vision to train doctors to provide essential medical care for remote communities throughout Nepal. A single donation or a regular commitment will give a bright, promising student from a remote part of Nepal the opportunity to fulfill their dream of becoming a doctor, and will help address the lack of health care in the remote areas of Nepal.
